Reverend Corey B. Gibson, MDiv., Senior Pastor

An educator by profession and minister by call, Rev. Corey B. Gibson views everyday as a day to enhance the lives of others. His mission in life is to “Shape Lives and Mold Minds according to the will of God!”

A native of Buffalo, New York, Rev. Gibson is the proud son of Charles and Mattie Gibson. Currently, he is privileged to serve as the Senior Pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of Buffalo, New York.

Rev. Gibson received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia (2010), and a Master of Divinity Degree from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union (2014). In January 2013, Rev. Gibson was licensed to preach the Gospel at the Calvary Baptist Church, Buffalo, New York, and in 2017 was ordained at the First Baptist Church of Vienna under the leadership of Dr. Vernon C. Walton.

Rev. Gibson has developed as an educator, a mentor, and servant while working with youth in both the classroom and the church. As an educator, Rev. Gibson served as an elementary school teacher in the Richmond Public School System. In 2015, he was named “Teacher of the Year” for Chimborazo Elementary School, the first authorized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in Central Virginia. He also served as the Minister of Children and Youth, and later Director of Ministries of the historic First African Baptist Church, Richmond, Virginia, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Rodney D. Waller. From 2010-2015, Rev. Gibson led the youth ministry at First African B.C. with a passionate, engaging, loving, innovative and energetic presence. He utilized technology-based instruction, engaged the ministry in community outreach projects that extended beyond the walls of the church, and fostered relationships with other ministries throughout the community.

From July 2015 until January 2019, Rev. Gibson proudly served as the Youth and Young Adult Pastor and Director of Ministries of First Baptist Church of Vienna, in Vienna, Virginia, where Dr. Vernon C. Walton serves as Senior Pastor. Within that time, Rev. Gibson’s passion for empowering and equipping youth and young adults, as well as love for ministry development flourished. The Youth Leadership Council and The S.P.O.T. (Study, Prayer, Open Dialog and Transformation), a weekly bible study for young adults, are just two of the many initiatives Rev. Gibson has launched. He has taken this vision to enhance the lives of God’s people beyond our borders to Haiti, where he has preached the gospel and conducted training for youth and young adult leaders.

On December 16, 2018, Rev. Gibson was called and is privileged to serve as the seventh senior pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of Buffalo, New York. Together, they are energized and excited about what’s to come as they are “Commemorating 80 Years of Faithful Ministry; Committed to the Future Work Ahead!”

In addition to being an invested member of his local community, Rev. Gibson is also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.   Ultimately, Rev. Gibson strives to be the best man that God has called him to be.

He firmly believes in leaving a lasting legacy through every endeavor of his life. He does not fear the challenges in life, for he lives by the words of 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
