Sister Eliza Arnold
Sunset: March 27, 2019
Eliza Arnold transitioned to be with her Lord and Savior on March 27, 2019 after long glorious life of 101 years. She was a loving and committed mother, grandmother, great grandmother and most important a servant of the Lord. She outlived many of her loved ones including her mother, Daisy Glover, her grandparents, Joseph and Penny McBride, her cousin Florence, her husband Frank W. Arnold and her eldest son John Arnold whom she actively acknowledged along with others daily.
Her five living children Mary E. Preston (James), Homer Arnold (Joan) Hosie Arnold (Bernadine), Frank Arnold (Martha), Dennis Arnold (Novella) and Ann Arnold, the wife the late John Arnold. She also leaves to cherish her memory 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and the host of family and friends who continue to honor and carry on her legacy of love and heart of service.
Eliza was born on July 5, 1917 to Homer Norwood and Daisy McBride in Abbeyville County, South Carolina. Eliza’s mother passed when she was only six months old and her loving grandparents Penny and Joseph raised her. At a very young age, she committed herself to helping them on the farm as well as surrendering her life to the Lord. She joined the church at the tender age of 10. The Lord planted a seed in her heart and stayed strong in her heart through illness and health up until her last breath.
In 1941, Eliza met her husband, Frank W. Arnold and they married in December 28, 1948. They moved from Atlanta, Georgia to Detroit, Michigan in August of 1942. In Detroit, they lived with her sister-in-law Emma Norwood. In 1943, they moved to Buffalo, NY where they established a life and a family. Frank and Eliza worked hard at bettering themselves and creating opportunities for their six children. Together, Frank and Eliza instilled in their children to work hard, integrity, honor and family first.
In 1989, when their children were grown, they returned to Atlanta, GA. Unfortunately, her husband fell ill in November of 2000 and they return to Buffalo, NY where he passed after 59 years of marriage. We will always remember Eliza as a Woman of God. Her favorite bible verse was Psalms 27 and her favorite songs were “I am a Living Testimony” and “Stand.” She demonstrated and lived every lyric of these songs every day. Both, Eliza and Frank sacrificed to ensure all their children attended church every Sunday. Even in the throes of Alzheimer’s she was a loving person and testimony to God’s love. She prayed everyday all day. Today, we will remember her most famous phrase in our grief “Let Go and Let God” goodbye and congratulations on a life well live Eliza Arnold.
Her funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, April 3. 2019, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1184 Genesee Street.
The wake begins at 10 AM followed by the funeral at 11 AM.
